Custom Build Log HomesLog homes are warm and inviting and can be built in any fashion and floor plan. Choosing a company that custom builds log homes will take some research. Many companies will build log homes within a certain radius of their home office, but they are located through out the US. The midwest and eastern states of Pennsylvannia, West Virginia and Maryland are popular locations for log homes.
Before contracting with a company to build your log home, be sure that they offer design services and can customize existing floor plans. The interiors of log homes need to be carefully planned to make the most of this type of construction. You want someone who can give you exactly what you envision and you want the option of choosing from custom floor plans, existing floor plans, and a combination of both. Also be sure to research the company’s records. Are there any complaints from previous customers? Can you visit homes that they have built? Because custom builders of log homes are fewer and farther between than just ordinary builders, you want to be sure to work with someone reputable. Companies that custom build log homes should be able to give you very specific information about the wood they harvest. Familiarize yourself with pine, cedar and other types of wood and make sure the company provides you with harvesting information. Lumber should be harvested from standing dead trees. The lumber should be dried for a period of 7 – 10 years. If the lumber is harvested from fallen trees, it will have begun to break down and rot. Any reputable company should be able to satisfy your inquiries for how the lumber is harvested. If you can’t find referrals to companies in your area, research them online. Once you have located and selected a company, construction of your custom built log home can begin. Log homes in most areas are not as common as traditional homes so remember to take that into account for insurance value, resale, and property tax purposes. |
