Build a Storage ShedWhen you decide to build a storage shed consider building one on skids. This way you will not need footings or a foundation. Also this will make the storage shed portable. Though you are planning to build a small storage shed, there are still plenty of items you will need to purchase. Lumber will be needed for skids, floor joists, flooring, framing, and roof sheathing. Decay resistant lumber will be needed for the walls. Roofing materials will need to be purchased, along with any hardware needed, and let's not forget the door. Will your storage shed have a window? What about any special trimming?
If you plan to build a storage shed on your own, you will need a good set of plans. Be sure to read over the plans and see if you can understand them easily. If not, you may need to have the plans revised or seek help from your local hardware store. Make noted directly on your plans. You will not want to undertake the building and have to stop in the middle to ask for help. Start with a materials list and check things off as you get ready to build. Don't forget the tools you will need to put your new storage shed together. When you build a storage shed it's best to start with the skid and joist outlay. Once that is complete, you can cover it with flooring. The four wall frames should go up next making sure the walls are plumb (vertical). Beam supports should be in place and rafters for the roof should go in next. The roof should be covered in sheathing which will support the corrugated roofing iron. This will make for a care free and long lasting roof. Walls should be added with a cladding underlay. Attach any exterior boards to this for your finished look. Finally add a door and window and you've now learned how to build a storage shed. |
