How to Build a Horse Stall

If you already have a barn and want to learn how to build a horse stall, first you will need to decide which type of stall you want to build. There are portable horse stalls, welded horse stalls, race track horse stalls, and even designer horse stalls. Welded horse stalls are of course the strongest and most durable type of stall. Many companies offer pre-fabricated horse stalls. You can purchase these completed, ready to put together yourself, or hire someone to come to your property and build it for you.



Many plans on how to build a horse stall are available online and at local horse feed stores. When selecting your horse stall plan, be sure it is the correct size, material and has the correct amount of stalls. Be sure that it contains easy to read directions and has a list of all supplies needed. Many plans will not include household tools, assuming that you already have these tools available. There is nothing worse than starting to build a rather big project and discover that you don't have the correct size screwdriver at hand.

Horse Betting

Most horse stalls should be 12 feet by 12 feet in size. Larger horses will need a bigger stall. Some horse stalls will have an adjacent paddock, letting the horse walk outdoors will only benefit the horse. When learning how to build a horse stall, be sure to provide an area for water and feed. Your horse stall should provide a manger which will keep the horses feed off the floor and free from disease. Allow your horse at least 20 minutes a day to leave his horse stall. Horses need exercise that a 12 foot by 12 foot stall cannot provide. Paddock doors are common in plans on how to build a horse stall. These doors will provide a way to open the top half of the door for the horse to receive sunlight and fresh air. When purchasing how to build a horse stall plans, don't forget to check that it meets all of your horses needs. If you do this, your horse is sure to be happy and so will you.
